Dallas Women’s Foundation 31st Anniversary Luncheon Raises $1.26M
$31 M of $50M Campaign Goal Reached
DALLAS, Nov. 3, 2016 – Dallas Women’s Foundation celebrated its 31st Annual Luncheon, presented by U.S. Trust, on Oct. 21, by announcing that the organization is in the midst of a $50M, five-year, comprehensive fundraising campaign. The Foundation, the largest regional women’s fund in the world, drives research, grantmaking and advocacy to advance women and girls in North Texas and beyond. The luncheon, co-chaired by Joyce Goss and Selwyn Rayzor, raised $1.26M – bringing the campaign total to $31M to date. The 1,200 luncheon attendees heard from featured keynote speaker Candy Chang, and helped launch a community art project called “A Better World is…”
“In the spring of 2013, Dallas Women’s Foundation committed to take bold action to strengthen women’s economic security and women’s leadership in North Texas,” said Ellenore Knight Baker, chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. “We knew that our unique focus and expertise on women and girls could be the catalyst for a greater impact. Under the insightful leadership of Roslyn Dawson Thompson, and with the collective support of all of our donors, we are proud to have raised $31M, including the $1.26M raised at the luncheon, towards our $50M goal. We believe that there has never been a more critical time to invest in and strengthen women and girls.”
The community art project – “A Better World Is…” – was inspired by the work of keynote speaker, artist and activist Candy Chang, who aims her art installations at engaging community participation that helps create bridges for understanding and healing. The project premiered at the annual luncheon, featuring responses from women and girls served by nearly 100 of Dallas Women’s Foundation’s grantee partners. These handwritten responses to the prompt “A Better World Is…” were thought-provoking, funny, and at times, heart-breaking. Attendees at the luncheon were challenged to participate as well, either in-person or at www.abetterworld.is. The art project was then installed at Southwest Center Mall, NorthPark Center and the StewPot through early November, enabling the broader community to participate.
